Speaker bios and topics:

Laura Ward on Learning and Emotions in Horse Training

Laura worked for ten years as a small animal veterinary nurse, before studying for her BSc (hons) in Applied Animal Behaviour. Laura has a particular passion for helping people understand their equine friends, encouraging constant critique and scrutiny of the myths, traditions and language that mystifies equestrianism and, in her opinion, often blocks progress. In her presentation Laura will discuss how horses learn, looking at applicable examples in modern day training. She will also discuss the role of emotions in learning, and issues which may arise from misinterpretation or misunderstanding.

Sue Falber on Bach Flower Remedies explored for you and your horse

Sue is an Equine Touch and VHT Practitoner based in Bedfordshire. Sue has also studied Kinesiology and Homeobotanical Therapy which she often integrates within her work. It was during her studies that she came across the Bach Remedies and just how wonderful they can be to address not only our own personal emotional imbalances but those of our animals. There are actually 38 Bach remedies in the system that can gently and effectively restore the balance between body and mind and Sue will discuss how they can help both you and your horse.

Auriane Hurtes on Feeding for Optimal Health

Auriane is an equine nutritionist who is passionate about feeding for health and having a holistic approach. Auriane studied a master’s in Sweden where she wrote her thesis on the feeding practices of competition horses. Auriane has worked in Australia and the UK, aspiring to improve equine health and welfare while contributing to reduce the gap between research and practice in the horse feed market.

Sara Udal on Saddle Fit for Peak Performance

As a holistic LM saddle consultant, Sara’s intention is to “help both horse and rider to achieve freedom of movement, balance and comfort”. In her presentation she will give insight into the ‘holistic’ saddle fitting experience; including how she assesses a horse, what it means to fit a saddle the LM way, and how she works with a rider. Sara has an interest in equine behaviour and ethical training and spent 4 years studying Equine Touch. She is passionate about Equine biomechanics and how we can train and ride without brace in order for our horses to be able to move softly in self-carriage.

Babette Tegldal on Getting to know your horses' musculature and monitoring for health

Babette is a qualified Equine Touch Practitioner and Instructor, with a particular interest in how equine mental and physical states are interlinked and co-dependent. She loves moments of true harmony between horse and rider, whether in the saddle, during groundwork or hanging out in the field. Her presentation was inspired by observing the dramatic muscular changes that can happen in her equine clients, as well as the huge benefits that can be obtained by owners and riders being more aware of how their equine partner changes over time.
