Wedding Flowers

Getting married and having that magical chance to create meaningful arrangements with beautiful flowers was one of the key moments which inspired me to start Starlight Cottage Flowers. Weddings and flowers go together like tea and biscuits! I used roses I had grown myself but not everyone has that chance. I now offer brides the opportunity to get beautiful bouquets, buckets of DIY flowers, or even come along and pick their own flowers - whether they want a few simple arrangements in bottles on the tables, or something more elaborate we can make this happen. I also offer workshops in how to create simple floral impact at a wedding, and how to arrange simple posies. This can also make for a fun Hen Party activity!

How does pick-your-own wedding flowers work?

I only offer two flower picking sessions each week, depending on time of year to make sure it is a personal and bespoke occassion. The cost tends to be in the region of £300 but depends a little on type of flowers required. Instead of simply leaving you with a pair of secateurs feeling a bit overwhelmed I will guide you around the cutting patch, so you can pick the right balance of blooms and foliage, as well as providing guidance about what stage of growth will work best to pick at depending on how many days away your wedding is. We can experiment and see what look you find most appealing - something wild and unstructured, an abundance of colour, or understated and romantic. There will of course also be tea and cake galore! You are welcome to attend with one other person - perhaps your mum or maid of honour. If you come on your own, I am also very happy to help with the cutting of the flowers themselves. Do wear sturdy shoes or wellies, and an umbrella if the weather looks ‘typically British’!

For these pick-your-own sessions I don’t specify a certain number of flower buckets or an exact stem count as I find that is too restrictive. But typically you would be able to pick enough flowers for 10 tables or for several hand-tied bouquets. If you wish, we are able to also create hand tied bouquets for the bride and bridesmaid if you would prefer to delegate that aspect to our team. There is no experience needed, we will guide you to make sure you are super confident and are prepared for arranging all your beautiful flowers.

Do contact us when you are planning your wedding, we can discuss what blooms will be in season on the date as well as what atmosphere you wish to create. It is also possible to rent various vases, bottles and jars which can be used for floral arrangements on tables.
